Isaura Servin Gaeta : Estánfor: Our Voices
Abstract/Contents
- Abstract
- In this oral history, Isaura Servin Gaeta (BS Electrical Engineering, 1980) shares her experiences as a first-generation student and one of the few Latinas in engineering during her time. She describes her gratitude for the support she received from her peers, especially Phillip Pompa, and the Latino community. Gaeta also mentions her involvement in El Centro Chicano, where she eventually served on the advisory council. She recalls being the first female president of the Stanford Society of Chicano and Latino Engineers and Scientists, as well as a member of the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers) and WISE (Women in Science and Engineering) and advises current students to get involved in student organizations for leadership experience. She concludes by suggesting ways that the engineering curriculum might creatively mix hands-on experience and theory in order to appeal to a greater number of young people from diverse backgrounds. Today, Isaura Servin Gaeta continues to lead engineering research and development teams at Intel Corporation. She has received the Intel Achievement Award, the company’s highest recognition, five times over the span of thirty years.
