Biographical/Historical | Professor of computer science at Stanford University, Donald Ervin Knuth was born in 1938 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He received a B.S. from Case Institute of Technology in 1960 and a Ph.D. from the California Institute of Technology in 1963. A member of Stanford's Computer Science Department since 1968, Knuth has won numerous awards for his work, including the National Medal of Science for his series of volumes, The Art of Computer Programming. He was elected to the National Academy of Sciences in 1975. |
