Imagenes de la Chicana
Abstract/Contents
- Abstract
The publication of Imagenes de Ia Chicana is the result of several Chicanas coming together at Stanford in a class called
"Ima'genes de Ia Chicana" in which 33 students participated. The course provided readings by or relevant to Chicana,
primarily as topics for discussion and self-expression, and as a way to review and dispel the myth and aura that surrounds
La tina women. It was an attempt to remove the misconceptions of what La Chicana should be, and to help make clearer to herself, what she, in fact, is. The writings that have been selected for this issue are those that best give light to her cultural and historical make-up, and that best express the beauty and complexity of what it means to be a brown woman in white society. They are those, also, that best lend themselves to provoking a discussion of and awakening to, what it is to be not just a woman in this society, but what it means to be Chicana.
