- Abstract
- Rosamund Clarke Bacon (1908-1999) reflects on her involvement with women’s groups at Stanford including the Stanford University Women’s Club, Cap and Gown, and the YWCA. She recounts some of her experiences as a student during the 1920s, as a dormitory director during World War II, and as a faculty wife; and she recalls the origins of the women’s clubhouse and efforts to raise money for a women’s gym. Her husband, Harold Maile Bacon (1907-1992), was a popular mathematics professor from 1930 to 1980. The couple lived in a large, white-pillared house on the corner of Mayfield Avenue and Campus Drive. The house is now home to the Harold and Libby Ziff Center for Jewish Life at Stanford.
