Note | Folder (1966/3); Newell's series of lectures was seminal for my own work on DENDRAL. Impact was to make me realize that productions might be the right way to represent knowledge in Heuristic DENDRAL. I pushed Ph.D. student Donald Waterman to investigate this further, but he would not be budged from his thesis topic involving the ard game of Bridge (I think it was Bridge). Research Associate Bruce Buchanan, however, pushed deep and far on this idea and made it work--critical for DENDRAL's success. |
