Note | The map divides Africa into five major regions: "Barbarie" [northern Africa]; "Haute Guinée" [West African coast], "Nigritie" [central Africa], "Abissinie" [Abyssinia and the Red Sea coastal region] and "Pays des Cafres" [South and East Africa, including what is now Somalia]. De l'Isle has divided these regions into smaller areas of dominion. The Dutch settlement at the Cape of Good Hope is labelled "Fort des Hollandois". |
