Mushroom Workers March on May Day in Kennett Square
Abstract/Contents
- Abstract
- On May Day immigrants and their supporters marched through the streets of Kennett Square a small town where thousands of immigrant workers labor in sheds growing mushrooms. The march was organized by the Farm Worker Support Committee (CATA) and many workers came from the only union shed, Kaolin Farms. Marchers protested anti-immigrant bills in Congress and local anti-immigrant initiatives. They called for amnesty -- permanent residence visas which would give the undocumented immediate legal status and rights -- and equality -- opposing second-class status as temporary workers.
