Paraliturgical poems. Preface
Abstract/Contents
- Abstract
- This short essay provides an introduction to a subset of Ladino Jewish poetry, often referred to as paraliturgical poetry because of its religious nature. These poems were sung on religious holidays, such as Hanukkah, Purim, Passover and Ninth of Av, and others. In the current collection at Stanford University, the author describes a dirge for Tishʻa be-Av, Purim coplas (poetic form) and a haggadah. Each of these describes known historical events.
