AutoMobile: Mobile Communication with Cars
Abstract/Contents
- Abstract
- AutoMobile: Our Big Idea. We live in a society where everyone is equipped with smartphones and portable devices that enable constant communication with our professional and private networks. Once we get behind the wheel, however, the ubiquity of modern-day communication behavior is disrupted: today’s cars don’t support the digital communication landscape and instead confine us to the radio and phone headset. Our Big Idea is an automotive system, AutoMobile, that addresses the big problem of communication discontinuity for drivers. We have synthesized existing technologies and previous research to form a novel approach to communication while driving that adheres to principles of minimal distraction and intuitive interface design. AutoMobile provides a convenient way to stay connected with the outside world by allowing the driver to seamlessly transition between life on and off the road. AutoMobile allows drivers to send and receive locations, phone numbers, addresses, and even favorite songs from friends, family, work colleagues, and personal mobile devices.
