Family Album: Photo Sharing for Intergenerational Connections
Abstract/Contents
- Abstract
Younger generations use modern technology that is incompatible with traditional methods of interaction that seniors are comfortable with. The growing geographical separation of families, reduced time dedicated to family communication and few common interests further weaken family connections.
Photo sharing is an important activity that brings families together. Some seniors use computers to receive photos of their family by email, while most other depend on photos being printed and mailed to them or on visits by family.
Our solution, the Family Album, is a digital photo album that is designed for seniors. It consists of a paper album fixed with a traditional lamp that can fit perfectly in the familiar environment of a living room. The user can flip through the pages of the album to browse through images without the training required with a new interface. The Family Album is synced to the cloud, and photos can be added via an email interface or via the smartphone app. The app lets the user control what is displayed in the album.
