Bibliographic information
Note | General atlas of the universe, lithographed and published on 61 copper plates double page by Santini. Includes double page decorative title page and table of contents "Tables des cartes geographiques qui composent le Nouvel Atlas De Mr. Grenet". Grenet was a Jesuit educator base in Paris, who produced a large relatively common atlas in Paris, with maps based on Bonne. He thereafter created a new title page and contents page, revising all of his maps to show that they were published in Venice and based upon the work of Paolo Santini. Engraved title page showing cherub, globe, maps and surveying instruments. Maps are outline hand color dated from 1788-1793, and are all ascribed to M[onsieur] Bonne or to Rto. Bona. Showing various Empires, Kingdom, States, Republics and Islands throughout the world, major cities, towns, villages, rivers, mountains, drainage, etc. Bound in full calf with rich gold decoration and gold title "Grenet atlas portatif" on spine. |
